Southern Moravia and its Capital Brno - Traffic Crossroads of European Significance

Road Transport

Excellent transport infrastructure provides benefits to the effecient strategic location of Brno and the whole region. The city, itself, is situated on the crossroads of the motorways D1 and D2 that intersect the region and that are a part of the Trans-European thoroughfares West - East (France - Ukraine, E50) and North - South (Scandinavia - the Balkans, E55, E65). Further transport infrastructure includes the speed-ways E461 Svitavy - Brno - Pohořelice - Vienna (linked to the roads E49 and E59 in Vienna) and the speed-way E462 running from Brno via Ostrava and Český Těšín to Krakow in Poland, where it further connects to E77. An important project of the city of Brno in the area of transport infrastructure is current construction of a large city ring road.

Rail Transport

Southern Moravia is a traffic junction of Europe. Passing through the region are 2 multi-mode corridors which are further linked to the TEN Trans-European network of the EU countries - the 4^th Corridor Berlin - Prague - Brno - Břeclav - Vienna/Bratislava and the line b of the 6^th Corridor Gdaňsk - Katovice - Ostrava - Břeclav - Bratislava (with a direct road junction to Brno). These corridors intersect in Brno. Besides that, the city of Brno is integrated into the project of European network of high-speed railway lines and should become one of the crossing points of this network.

Connection of Brno, the capital of the region, with other European towns and cities is provided by several trains of Eurocity class.

Air Transport

A not-negligible advantage of the region is the 1^st class International Airport in Brno-Tuřany (international designation ICAO-LKTB), with 2,650 m long and 60 m wide runway. Its technical parameters and equipment comply with international standards of all-season operating of all types of aircrafts, including under difficult weather conditions. At the moment there are two scheduled flight connections: Brno – London (once a day) and Brno – Munich (twice a day with a possibility of changing in Munich to all the lines of Lufthansa company).
